Kagoshima University started the Shuseikan Advanced Research Project to support research that reflects the university's distinctive features and strengths.

The name Shuseikan refers to groundbreaking initiatives taken by Lord Nariakira Shimadzu to develop modern industry in Kagoshima in the mid 19th century.
